Building Connected Grid Operations Through GIS, SCADA and Utility-System Integration

About the Client

A large power distribution utility programme covering 587+ towns, requiring a unified technology environment to improve visibility of the electrical distribution network, strengthen operational monitoring and support more effective management of network assets and consumers.

The Challenge

Managing distribution infrastructure across hundreds of towns required accurate network information, improved operational visibility and stronger integration between geospatial, metering and utility-management systems.

The programme needed to bring together electrical network assets, consumer information and operational data within a connected environment while supporting monitoring and management of the distribution network.

The Solution

CS TECH Ai served as the System Integrator for a comprehensive utility modernisation programme combining GIS, SCADA/DMS, consumer indexing, metering and enterprise-system integration.

The scope included:

  • GIS mapping and consumer indexing across 587+ towns
  • Mapping of distribution-network assets at and below 11 kV, including LT lines, poles and associated equipment
  • Metering and automatic data logging for distribution transformers and feeders
  • Implementation and integration of SCADA/DMS
  • Survey, network-data creation and ongoing delta updates
  • GIS platform upgrades and web-services enablement
  • Integration with utility systems including ERP, ADMS, AMR/AMI, MDM and OMS

This created a more connected digital environment for managing network information and supporting distribution operations.

The Impact

The programme enabled the utility to establish a more integrated view of its distribution network across 587+ towns, connecting geospatial asset information with operational and enterprise systems.

Key outcomes included:

Improved visibility of distribution-network assets and consumers
Better integration of GIS and operational utility information
Stronger support for energy accounting and distribution management
Improved identification of network and commercial-loss areas
Better information availability for operational and planning decisions
Up to 15% reduction in distribution losses reported across the programme
