Citywide NRW Reduction Programme

Citywide NRW Reduction Programme

The Assignment

Reducing Non-Revenue Water across a large urban water distribution system requires a detailed understanding of existing network conditions, demand patterns and hydraulic performance.

The assignment involved hydraulic modelling and preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the creation of District Metered Areas (DMAs), with the objective of reducing NRW and improving consumer service levels across major water-supply command areas.

The programme covered approximately 580 sq. km, serving 7.2 million people and more than 520,000 consumers.

Our Approach

CS TECH Ai combined field investigations, network assessment and hydraulic modelling to establish the engineering foundation for DMA creation and targeted NRW reduction.

The engagement included:

  • Site investigations and field activities
  • Assessment of existing water distribution networks
  • Hydraulic modelling of the water supply system
  • Planning and creation of District Metered Areas (DMAs)
  • Preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs)
  • Analysis of existing network conditions and system performance
  • Water supply system analysis and optimization
  • Engineering documentation to support NRW reduction initiatives

The work was undertaken across two packages, encompassing four water treatment plants and 2,850 tubewells, in addition to the extensive distribution network serving the project area.

Impact

Established the engineering foundation for targeted Non-Revenue Water reduction.
Developed hydraulic models to support improved understanding of network performance.
Enabled structured planning for the creation of DMAs.
Supported identification of network interventions required to improve water distribution efficiency.
Prepared DPRs to guide subsequent NRW-reduction and network-improvement initiatives.
Supported improved planning for a water distribution system serving 520,000+ consumers across approximately 580 sq. km.
