Transforming Water Distribution Management with IoT and Digital Integration

Transforming Water Distribution Management with IoT and Digital Integration

About the Client

A government-owned water utility responsible for planning, execution, and oversight of water supply infrastructure in urban and peri-urban regions. The client’s mandate includes ensuring equitable access to drinking water, monitoring distribution efficiency, and reducing non-revenue water losses.

The Challenge

The client needed real-time visibility into water flow and infrastructure performance across a widespread distribution network. Manual tracking and siloed data sources made it difficult to identify inefficiencies, leakages, and pressure issues—resulting in service disruptions, high operational costs, and lack of accountability.

The Solution

We implemented an integrated IoT-based water distribution monitoring system. The solution combined sensors, flow meters, telemetry, and centralized dashboards to track pressure, consumption, and infrastructure health in real time.

Key elements included:

  • Flow and pressure monitoring through IoT-enabled field devices
  • Centralized dashboards for live system visibility and leak detection
  • Zone-level data analytics to identify consumption anomalies
  • Alerts and automated reporting to reduce response time
  • Integration with GIS to link data with pipeline assets and service areas
  • Support for NRW audits and utility performance benchmarking

The Impact

The solution enabled proactive water infrastructure management with measurable outcomes:

  • 30% reduction in NRW through early leak detection
  • Significant improvement in field response time and fault localization
  • Real-time consumption insights for better demand planning
  • Enhanced governance through digital audit trails and remote diagnostics
  • Scalable framework adaptable to future smart city and utility programs
